Why Diets Don't Work
I was proposed an interesting question from a client of mine the other day, her
question was, what is the best diet? What was my answer, the diet that you will
follow. So what do I mean by that? What is the best diet? Keto? Atkins? Paleo?
Let's face it, when somebody is motivated to start a diet, chances are they will
adhere to the diet and follow it for maybe a week or two if they are lucky. So
then what happens, the inevitable? The truth is once life sets in, the hustle
and bustle, the rat race, chances are that the diet goes right out of window.
You end up losing your way, most likely gaining the weight back, and all that
motivation to follow a diet goes out the window. So what's the best way to
prevent against losing motivation and losing the diet battle?
When asked what is the best diet to follow my answer will always be the one that
you are able to follow. Let's face it, life can get difficult, time can become
scarce and your fitness and health goals can end up on the back burner. So in
order to have a diet that you will follow, it needs to be easily accessible,
food friendly, and one that you'll be able to follow when considering the rigors
of your life. Let's face it, not everybody is going to be able to stick to
chicken and brown rice everyday lol. So what's the best and most efficient way
to diet?
As a
personal
trainer, my best advice is to sit down with a pen and paper and
come up with a game plan right from the begging. Map out how many calories you
think will put you into a caloric deficit, and organize your macros i.e.
protein, fat, and carbs. Next, it’s a great idea to keep track of your calories
and macros throughout the day to be sure you are within those parameters. This
is, in a way, what the call “flexible dieting” or “if it hits your macros.”
Basically, as long as you are hitting those numbers you can add some more “fun”
foods to eat. This makes the diet a lot easier to follow and adhere to. If you
